Cold pressing involves grinding fruits, seeds or nuts into a paste and extracting the oil droplets which form in the paste. It’s a completely heat- and chemical-free process. This means much more of the goodness remains in the end product. That’s why we use this extraction method to produce the Argan Oil used in EcoBeauty Facial Oil. It ensures a purer oil, naturally rich in vitamin E, fatty acids and antioxidants.
MACERATED OIL EXTRACTION
Oil maceration is the process used in producing Cotton Extract for EcoBeauty Facial Oil. It involves placing cotton in a container with a liquid like Sunflower Oil to specifically target, dissolve and extract its beneficial components. Heat is added to speed up the process and cause the plant to release its beneficial components. Once it’s strained you’re left with Cottonseed Oil infused in Sunflower Seed Oil, giving you the benefits of both with their fatty acid content and Vitamin E, helping to nourish, care for, moisturise and offer antioxidant protection to your skin.
We use steam distillation to release precious extracts from roses, chamomile and cornflower to produce the Rosewater and Chamomile water used in EcoBeauty Toner and the Cornflower water used in EcoBeauty Cleansing Milk. The steam energizes the plants so that they open and release all the goodness we need—antioxidants, amino acids, tannins, sugars, etc. What you are left with, essentially, are all the skin benefits that the plants can provide, but in liquid form that can be incorporated into the formulation.
SUPERCRITICAL CO2 EXTRACTION
Supercritical CO2 extraction uses a liquid form of carbon dioxide to quickly and cleanly yield purer extracts from raw ingredients like Lingonberry and Sea Buckthorn Seeds. It’s a fast, clean method that is environmentally-responsible and requires low operating temperatures compared to other processes. This helps save energy and, ultimately, more of the purity of the extracts used in EcoBeauty Face Cream and Eye Cream.
